Casa del Mar  - Punta Mita, Mexico

Set along the pristine shoreline of Punta Mita, Mexico, this residence occupies an extraordinary beachfront position, where the presence of the ocean is immediate and immersive. In response to the coastal environment, the material palette was carefully selected for durability, with finishes designed to withstand salt air and sun while maintaining their integrity over time. Conceived for a family deeply connected to the sea, the home balances openness with intimacy. Two generous guest bedrooms, along with a separate beachfront guesthouse, provide private accommodations for visitors. The primary suite is conceived as a secluded retreat, featuring a spacious sitting area, expansive closets, and a serene bathroom inspired by Japanese design. Here, a soaking tub and open shower are oriented toward uninterrupted ocean views, creating a quiet dialogue between interior ritual and the surrounding landscape. At the heart of the home, a large family room integrates a contemporary kitchen, breakfast bar, and dining area into a single, fluid space. The adjacent living area extends outward through sliding glass panels, dissolving boundaries between indoors and out. These openings connect to a pool terrace at the rear and, to the side, a contemplative courtyard anchored by a sculptural work by A. Emilio Sorondo set within a reflecting pool. Supporting elements include a covered carport and a two-car garage, designed with flexibility to function equally well as a studio or office. Throughout, the architecture embraces its coastal setting—framing views, inviting ocean breezes, and creating a seamless relationship between the built environment and the natural rhythms of the shore.
